Sports News – Morgan McDonald (ON 2013), Distance Runner
Morgan McDonald has been blazing a trail of success in distance running since his high school days and continues to shine at the University of Wisconsin in both the 3000m track and cross country events.
As a Winconson Badgers’ track and field sophomore, Morgan broke the four minute indoor mile and the Badger’s school record at the Armory Track Invitational in New York City in February this year, clocking in at 3 minutes, 57.83 seconds.
Morgan lists his notable achievements with the Wisconson Badgers as:
- School record holder in the mile (3:57.83)
- 2014 Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year
- 2014 NCAA Great Lakes All-Region Performer
- Big Ten Champion in the 3000 meters (2016)
At Newington, Morgan had an impressive list of championships and achievements in distance running:
He won the 2010 U16 National Cross Country Championship…named the 2011 U18 National 3000 meters Champion…in 2011 was the U18 National Cross Country Champion…represented Australia in the 2012 World Junior Cross Country Championship in the U20 division…won the 2013 U18 National Cross Country Championship…ran in the 2014 Nationals in the 5000 meters for the U20 division…finished 10th in the 5000 meters in the U20 division at the 2014 World Junior Athletics Championships in Hayward Field, Eugene.
