Top Bar Owners
The establishments of three Old Boys were included in the recently published Good Food Guide’s Australia’s top 25 bars. Out of the twenty five bars featured in the national guide, nine were located in Sydney, meaning Newington Old Boys punch above their weight in the high end of the Sydney bar scene.
Featured were Neil Perry (ON 1975) Rockpool Bar And Grill Restaurant ; Andrew Cibej’s (ON 1987) 121BC ; Glen Goodwin’s (ON 1992) Monopole (pictured above).
Executive Chef
Another Old Boy, Ash Hughes (ON 1994) has recently been appointed as Executive Chef at Trippas White Group – Commercial Caterers (Centrepoint Tower Restaurant et al).
This collection of high profile restaurateurs and bar owners are great role models for the increasing interest in Hospitality studies demonstrated by current Newington boys who are hopeful of carving out a career in this competitive industry. Earlier this year, the commercial quality kitchen and hospitality centre, previously the Boarders’ kitchen in Founders at Newington College, was opened by Neil Perry.
