Newington P&F Ball shines a spotlight on Dr Mulford

What do you do when the Headmaster decides to retire? Have a Gala Ball to mark his incredible contribution!

At the recent Newington P&F Ball more than 450 Stanmore, Wyvern and Lindfield parents and Old Boys raised a glass to Dr and Mrs Mulford.

The night began with a version of “This is Your Life” presented by Newington parents Kylie Gillies and Craig Reucassel, who took Dr Mulford on a trip down memory lane. Dr Mulford took prime position on an outsized red throne to review proceedings.

As part of his heartfelt response, he told guests: “Leading the College for the past 10 years has been a highlight in my career”. Dr Mulford received a well-earned standing ovation in recognition of his contribution to Newington.

A key purpose of the ball was to raise funds for the College Endowment Fund, through the Mulford Bursary. Bidding on silent and live auction items was competitive and there was much interest in tickets to win a $10,000 cash prize in the raffle. Congratulations to the lucky winners.

We are planned to announce that over $120,000 was raised on the night. Thank you one and all for your support.

Thank you also to the 110 Year 12 parents who attended the VIP drinks before the ball and enjoyed the opportunity to converse with Dr Mulford and Mr Roberts in a relaxed environment, and to all those who made the evening so special.

Back To Newington Day 2018

Food galore, endless sunshine, balmy temperatures and some fantastic sport results. Could we have asked for more for Back to Newington Day 2018?

More than 5000 people flooded Newington’s Stanmore campus from 9am, enjoying stalls and music, trying their hand on the rowing machines and catching up with other Newington families.

More than 400 cakes were donated to the NEW Women cake stall and they sold out by mid-afternoon. The Marketplace in Centenary hall did a roaring trade.

Money raised by Newington’s many dedicated Support Groups was up by more than 10 per cent, ensuring Newington boys will continue to have the best possible experience from the co-curricular activities. A special initiative by Year 7 to help rural communities devastated by drought raised more than $10,000, with some boys donating their pocket money and others working well beyond their rostered time to encourage as many donations as possible.

A huge thank you to the Communities from Stanmore, Wyvern and Lindfield who volunteered their time and energy to creating a truly special day.

Come along in 2019 as you are all welcome to come, Back To Newington.

MOONs Annual Lunch 2018

Prescott Hall was again buzzing this year with over 65 Mothers of Old Newingtonians (MOONs) gathering for their annual lunch. The lunch welcomes NEW MOONs to regroup after their first year out. 2017 MOONs were the largest group to attend the lunch and caught up on all the news of their sons and peers. Many familiar faces such as MOONs founder -Joy Christian (MOON 1981/1982), Ruth Enderby (MOON 1984/1985/1988) and Robyn McGaw (MOON 1998) continue to attend each year adding to the tradition of the lunch.

A unique occurrence for the MOONs lunch, a mother and daughter attending, Maureen Kelleher (MOON 1978) and Jodie Kelleher (MOON 2017) attended the lunch both sharing news of their sons with their friends.

After a heartfelt speech given by Elaine Budd (MOONs 2004/2009) on Tracey Markos’s behalf, Dr Mulford gave his last MOONs update speech signing off that, the mothers are the backbone of Newington College.

Another year of stories, beautiful flowers from our own Catherine Sharmaine (MOON 2014) and lasting memories, until next year.

The MOONs lunch is held in Prescott Hall each year on Back to Newington Day. All MOONs are welcome to attend. If you would like to keep up to date with the MOONs you can join the M.O.O.N.S unofficial Facebook page. We would love to see more attend.
