Approaching Manhood
My sole purpose in this edition of Black and White is to point your attention to an event you must not miss. On the evening of Thursday 7 June Jonathan Doyle is coming to Newington to speak on “masculinity for boys” and related subjects. I have been involved in boys’ education for 25 years, both as a Chaplain and Headmaster, and in that time have sat through, endured and occasionally been informed and inspired by many speakers on “boys’ issues”. Jonathan Doyle is undoubtedly one of the best—he is dynamic, well-researched and entertaining. Please do not miss this occasion.
We were visited by US researcher Dr Adam Cox last year. He has recently completed and published a study of 20 international boys’ schools including those in Australia and New Zealand. Amongst his findings Dr Cox concluded: “masculinity is a highly engaging topic for older boys”. Responsibility, a sense of self-reliance, acceleration of the sex drive, life goals and the need to care for others, were all stand-out dimensions of Dr Cox’s research. Jonathan Doyle will cover many of these important aspects of development for the young men of Newington.
I look forward to seeing you at this evening in a few days’ time and further information about this evening can be found in this current edition of Black and White.
