For some boys the first day of the academic term was the start of their Newington journey, while others were returning to the College after the Christmas break, but for all it was the start of a very exciting year in the history of their school–Newington’s Sesquicentenary year.

Officially launching the College’s 150th birthday, The Headmaster, Dr David Mulford and the Sesquicentenary Chairman, Mr Rod Bosman (ON ‘78), travelled with members of the Sesquicentenary Committee to Lindfield, Wyvern and Stanmore on our first day of term. A special assembly was held at each to recognise the significance of the year and celebrate all that has been achieved for the thousands of Newington young men who have passed through the College gates over the last 150 years as well as what is yet to come for those at the College today.

Back in classrooms every boy was included in the special moment receiving commemorative gifts from the College including a Newington College cupcake designed especially for the occasion and a dedicatory Newington College tie and pin; mementos of being a current student in 2013.

There was a buzz of excitement across all three campuses as boys enjoyed their gifts and the significance of the occasion sank in. All Newington boys – past and present – will always be a part of the College, but the boys of 2013 will have a special place in Newington’s history and future generations will look back in years to come at the boys who were with us in this special year.
