1.   2013 Scholarship programs—Do your research now and get in early

Now is a great time to start researching what scholarships the various universities have to offer. Go to the university homepage and keyword search scholarships and this should get your started. The majority of academic scholarships close at the end of September each year. To get you started, check out the following university scholarships pages: UNSW Click here; The University of Sydney Click here; Bond University Click here. Bond University offers Newington boys annually an opportunity to be awarded the Collegiate Partner Program Scholarships, 50% course fee bursary.

2.   University Open Days 2012

Click here to find out when the universities will be holding their Open Days for 2013 perspective students. A great opportunity to visit the campuses, speak with Academics and staff about courses and campus life in general.

3.   The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)—Update

Students considering the pursuit of study in Pharmacy at The University of Sydney in 2013 are no longer required to undertake the STAT in 2012. However, students keen to study or Veterinary Science still need to undertake the STAT in 2012. Testing commences mid September 2012 through January 2013. Click here for further information.

Try a Trade Program 2012—New Initiative in 2012

Stay tuned for future updates regarding a new initiative in 2012, Try a Trade which will allow boys in Years 9 & 10 to get hands on experience in various trade occupations. The program is planned to take place in August 2012. If parents and Old Boys are interested in assisting with the Try a Trade program please contact Mr Jamie Breden, Careers and VET Coordinator. Year 12 Tertiary Options Evening 2013—Wednesday 25 July 2012 6.00-7.00pm

Copies of the UAC 2013 Guide will be distributed to Year 12 boys, as well as information covering:

• Overview of the application process on university admissions 2013
• Alternative pathways to university—having a Plan B in 2013
• Alternative entry schemes
• Educational Access Scheme
• Deferred study options—GAP Year, volunteer opportunities
