Dear Parents and Guardians,
With just over two weeks left of Term 3 we still have a busy calendar. This week all boys are back in class after the completion of exams, and our timetable has returned to normal.
At assembly, we were entertained by Combined Strings playing Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Johannes Brahms. Forty-five boys from Years 7-12 performed magnificently – again showing that the Music program at Newington College is in very good hands now and in coming years.
House Honour Colours were awarded to 25 boys in Years 11 and 12. This is a prestigious award, made to boys in Years 10-12 who make an outstanding effort in the areas of citizenship, co-curricular contribution and service to the community. UNSW Australian Economics Awards were also presented to 12 boys at assembly, highlighting the many and varied areas in which our boys can “discover what’s possible”.
SRC leader Alexander Humphreys addressed assembly for his last time to recap the 327 days since the 2017-2018 SRC first sat. Alexander spoke about what the SRC had achieved, including Heritage Day, the recycling initiative and the Inter-House World Cup. A second inter-house competition – dodgeball – will be starting today, proving that House spirit (and rivalry!) is well and truly alive.
On a housekeeping note, it is very important that we can contact parents in the event of an emergency. Keeping your address, telephone and email details up to date is critical. We have now made it easy for you to do this online with no need to email or call the College. Simply use the “Community Admin” area on the front page of Spaces. Please click here for more detailed information.
I wish you a relaxing weekend.
