Dear Parents and Guardians,
It’s testament to the skill and dedication of our boys that more than 100 of them received Colours, Letters and awards at this week’s Co-curricular Assembly.
Colours are among the highest honours that can be bestowed at Newington. The criteria for the award of Colours has varied over the decades; sometimes membership of senior teams has been enough, while at other times boys have had to put in a particularly outstanding performance. Today, boys must also demonstrate our character values: enjoyment, growth, hard work, respect, resilience and unity.
Congratulations to Matt Dyster (12/FL) who was awarded triple Colours for his contribution across Athletics, Cross Country, Water Polo and AFL. He is one of only five students to achieve this prestigious honour since 1981.
Congratulations too to Anthony Kama (12/FL), pictured above, who won the VET Excellence Award 2018. This award recognises the best and brightest VET students in NSW based on their efforts in both the classroom and on work placement. Anthony was one of only a few recipients from more than 10,000 candidates.
A group of very talented Year 12 boys – Nick Fitzsimmons (12/FL), Simon James (12/PR), Lachlan McIntyre (12/JN), James Roach (12/MA) and Ben Taylor (12/MA) – shared a Year 12 video tribute to Dr Mulford. The boys did a superb job with the video – made with tongue firmly in cheek – and had the entire College laughing as we watched. Their creative work can be viewed on Spaces.
We gave our Athletics Team a rousing send-off as they head to the 123rd AAGPS Athletics Competition on Saturday. Again, we were entertained with a great promotional video, the work of Aston Brown (12/MO), Tom Cheetham (12/MA), George Pople (12/JN) and Sam Woolbank (12/KL). We are fortunate to have so many boys who excel in Drama and Videography.
Tomorrow is House Competition Day. For Year 12, the day will start with our Farewell Parent/Son Breakfast. I wish all Houses the best of luck!
To all boys heading off to outdoor education camps on Sunday, have a great week. I look forward to seeing you back at the College on Friday 28 September for Valedictory Day, the last day of Term 3.
