Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week we swore in our 2019 student leaders, a group that includes 4 boarding prefects, 32 house captains, vice captains and chapel prefects and, of course, our 3 senior leaders (pictured above).
We also announced our Cricket Captain Nicholas Condon (11/FL), Captain of Boats Finn Tainsh (11/MO) and Water Polo Captain Max Lowry (11/ME).
All Newington student leadership positions, from prefects, house captains and vice captains to cocurricular and sporting captains and outdoor education leaders, are awarded based on a strong record of service to the College and the wider community. They are expected to model servant leadership, putting the needs of others ahead of their own.
Through service, all leaders are expected to demonstrate empathy and care for their fellow students and those in need in the wider community. As a cohort, they can have an impact on the tone and spirit of the school and leave a positive legacy for those to come.
Leading is challenging. It requires doing what is right, not what is popular. Our student leaders are expected to do the right thing, particularly when no one is watching.
I wish all our 2019 leaders a successful year.
A reminder that tonight is the 18th Annual CineArts Festival, which is being held in the Duckmanton Theatre, commencing at 6.30pm.
Next week is exam week at the College. The HSC continues and our Year 12 IB boys finally start their exams. Our Year 7 boys start their assessments and Years 8-10 start their yearly exams. I wish all the boys the best of luck.
