Dear Parents and Guardians,
The school term is in full swing and boys have settled into the routine of 2019 beautifully. This week we announced our summer Sport captains, and the leaders of Newington Challenge and Newington Cadets. In all, 48 boys were presented to Mr Michael Parker. Congratulations to all our 2019 leaders.
On Monday evening, our 4x100m Medley Relay Team (pictured above) broke the AAGPS swimming record for the second consecutive year. Lachlan Sheehy (Y12) swam the backstroke leg in a time of 1:03.6sec; Charles Dillon (Y11) swam the breaststroke leg in 1:10.1; Christopher Mina (Y10) swam the butterfly leg in 59.7 and Karl Kovarik (Y10) anchored the team with a 55.6 freestyle leg. The official time was 4:09.3, two seconds faster than the 2018 record our boys set. After this fantastic result I’m looking forward to the Newington Age Swim Championships this Friday at 4.45pm.
Next week is the first House Competition Day for 2019. This is a community day where boys compete in Volleyball, Four-Court Tennis, and modified Softball in teams that are a mix of students from Year 7 to 12. The focus is on participation, enjoyment and encouragement. A reminder to all boys that full College PE uniform must be worn to and from school.
I look forward to seeing the boys at Water Polo, Tennis, Basketball, Cricket and Rowing this weekend.
