Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last Sunday, 11 Newington rock bands competed in the 2019 Joeys Battle of the Bands. With 35 bands representing 15 schools, our Newington boys took out 3 placings across the 6 main prizes! Jack Singleton (10/LE) was awarded “Most Promising Vocalist” and the Year 7 rock club band The Attaboys – featuring Jake Tollemache (7/MO), Kristian Grbic (7/ME), William Murray (7/KL), Henry Rigg-Smith (7/MA), Joseph Yeh (7/MA), Sebastian Pidcock (7/MA) and Tristan Henry (7/JN) – were awarded 2nd place in the “Best Cover Song” category.
Earlier this week I sent a communication about the 157th Annual Prize Giving Ceremony on Monday 2 December. This year we return to the Sydney Town Hall. Prize Giving is a compulsory event for all boys in Years 7, 9 10 and Year 12, 2020 along with prize winners and musicians from Year 8. All parents and guardians are welcome to attend, and I hope to see many of you there.
As you can see from the photograph above, the response to our Exodus Foundation Christmas Drive has been slow to date. I invite all Newington families to donate non-perishable food and (new – not used) gifts for people of all ages who will be doing it tough at this time of the year. I know how generous the Newington community can be so please click here to see how you can help.
I am looking forward to the Junior School production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) which opens next Thursday evening. I hope to see you there.
