Dear Parents and Guardians,
We were privileged to have Fiona Reid, a Board member of the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter (NBWS), speak at assembly on Wednesday. Fiona talked about the main factors that lead to homelessness: physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse; family breakdown; financial strife; domestic violence; addiction; mental health issues and/or lack of affordable housing. Fiona explained that homelessness doesn’t discriminate; it can happen to anyone. Our boys held a fundraiser at lunch time today to raise money for the NBWS.
The NBWS fundraiser highlights the generosity of our community – as does the growing number of gifts under our Exodus Foundation Christmas tree. Click here to see how the donations are growing.
Another wonderful quality of our boys is their talent. The combined Chamber and Stanmore Strings performed Capriccio Espangole by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov at assembly. It was magnificent. William Kah (7/FL), Jack Parkes (8/PR), Bodie Young (8/PR) and Dean Xistouris (8/JN) won the Junior Division of the Impro Australia School’s Theatresports Challenge on the weekend and presented Mr Parker with the trophy at assembly. I’m told it was a convincing win by our Newington boys.
And to leadership. Our 2020 Captain of Tennis is Eric Tripathi (11/JN); the Captain and Vice-Captain of Music are Christian McLoughlan (11/JN) and Kevin Wang (11/MA); the Head Chorister is Tom Graham (11/MO) and the Leaders of Symphonic Winds, Orchestra and Contemporary Music are Will Angus (11/MA), Daniel Bordina (11/ME) and Miles Agius (11/ME). Our Drama Captain for 2020 is Luke Mesterovic (11/MA), supported by Vice-Captain Jonah Holmes (11/MO). Congratulations to all these boys.
It was wonderful to see so many people at the Carols Service last night. The singing of traditional carols filled the Chapel. Thank you to Reverend Geordie Barham and Paster Richard La’Brooy for organising the Chapel Service and to Callum Stewart (12/MA), Matthew Tan (8/MO) and Preston Zhang (7/LE) who accompanied us on the organ and piano.
On Monday we will attend our 157th Annual Prize Giving at Sydney Town Hall commencing at 10.00am. Doors will open to the public at 9.15am. Boys should make their own way to and from the Town Hall.
All boys return to classes on Tuesday and the year will conclude on Wednesday 4 December at 1.00pm.
