Dear Parents and Guardians,
Australian 2019 Newington Medallist Lt Col (ret) John Moore AM RFD CMC (ON 1953) was a very special guest at assembly on Wednesday. John shared stories of his time as a Newington student (back when there were only 400 boys on campus), his love of athletics, rowing and rugby and his stellar career in broadcasting, which has spanned 60 years. Most of you would know John as the voice of the ABC’s ANZAC Day broadcast, and we look forward to having him as our guest at this year’s ANZAC Day parade.
I do have a couple of housekeeping requests. Parents, please do not collect your boys from the top car park near the Drama Centre and Old Chapel. There have been several near misses and it is our collective responsibility to students, staff and property to be safety aware. Please use the pickup/drop of zone on the driveway near the Johnson Oval.
We have also received a call from a concerned neighbour who is worried one of our students will be hit by a car due to a lack of road awareness when crossing Cavendish Lane. If your son travels home this way, please reinforce the need to be aware of oncoming traffic when crossing this busy thoroughfare. For their safety, it is important boys do not use their headphones or phones when crossing roads.
On a lighter note, the Headmaster Michael Parker and I are looking forward to seeing everyone at the P&F’s first Parent Welcome Cocktail Evening on Saturday 22 February here at the College. Tickets can be purchased here and sales close soon.
Enjoy the weekend.
