Dear parents and guardians,
The past week has showcased the many and varied talents of our boys. Last weekend we attended two days of AAGPS Athletics. Although we very much missed the crowd it was still a fantastic couple of days. Congratulations to Newington’s Intermediate team who took out first place; our Senior and Junior teams both came fourth. Special mention must go to Bailey Habler (10/MO) who won the Open 3000m on Saturday and then backed up on Sunday to win the U16 800m and break the U16 1500m GPS record in a time of 4.04.47! Our many exceptional individual results can be found here.
Our Creative Arts Assembly was held on Wednesday and 53 Colours and Awards were presented. The awards were for Visual Arts, Music and the musical Urinetown, and Drama.
Last night the IB exhibition Lock and Key opened at the Concordia Gallery. The exhibition showcases the College’s approach to art education. We congratulate Nicholas Bulley (12/LE), Adrian Freiburg (12/PR), Dhruv Kumar (12/JN), Charlie Nicholas (12/MO), Tom Sherratt (12/ME) and Nicolas Yule (12/ME), along with their teacher Ms Hinves, on their outstanding efforts. The exhibition is a must see. Please email mhinves@newington.nsw.edu.au to book a COVID safe viewing.
From Visual Arts to Music. Last night we held our Music Showcase Concert. I was fortunate to be in the audience and recommend if you have not watched the concert yet, you do so by clicking here. The solo performances by Christian McLoughlin (12/JN) and Zach Razaleigh (12/PR) were exceptional. The Choir and particularly the final performance Happy Together led by Aiden Carter (10/MO) were fantastic.
A reminder that next weekend will be a Newington College long weekend, however sport will still go ahead on Saturday. Our staff will take part in professional development on Friday 14 August and Monday 17 August will form part of this long weekend. Students are not required at the College on either the Friday or Monday.
As we come to the end of Week 3, I wish you all a relaxing weekend.
