Dear parents and guardians,
The last day of Term 3 was Valedictory Day. It was a beautiful sunny day with a gentle breeze and the entire school were able to be part of the assembly, held on Johnson Oval for the first time. Years 7–11 sent our Year 12 boys off in a manner that acknowledged their time at Newington, showing their appreciation and thanks for the way they have led the school this year.
Our Year 12 2021 Senior Leaders were announced on the day. Congratulations to Deputy Senior Prefects Nicholas O’Shea and Rohan Gandhi and our 2021 Senior Prefect Conor Corcoran (pictured above from left to right). As is tradition, Conor, Rohan and Nicholas carried the Newington flag through the tunnel leading the Year 12 2020 boys to their final chapel service.
I would like to thank our 2020 Senior Leaders Woojin Lee, Max Langford and Nicolas Yule, our House Captains, Vice Captains and Chapel Prefects for the exceptional way they led the College through what has been a challenging year. In the words of the boys, and so many in 2020, ‘it is what it is’, but their response was nonetheless outstanding.
The College grounds look fantastic thanks to the efforts of our grounds team. We are ready to welcome all boys back on Monday 12 October when Term 4 begins. Our Year 12 HSC and IB exams will begin in late October. During the first two weeks of Term 4 the Year 12 Study Centre will be open and available exclusively for Year 12 2020 to use. From Week 3 Year 12 2021 will be able to use the Study Centre.
Term 4 will end with our Annual Prize Giving. It will be held at the Stanmore campus on Friday 4 December 2020, not at the Town Hall on Monday 7 December as previously communicated. Please note this change.
There is a lot happening this term and as COVID rules relax further we will communicate what any changes mean for you and your boys at Newington College.
From Monday:
- Boys should wear school uniform to and from school, changing into sport uniform for PDHPE and sport.
- Locker rooms will be open to all boys and bags are to be stored in lockers.
- Mobile phones must remain in lockers unless a student has an exemption from their HOH for medical reasons.
I hope you have enjoyed the holiday break. We look forward to seeing your son/s back on campus.
