Dear parents and guardians,
What a week it has been for staff and students out on camp! Throughout the week, staff and student leaders did an outstanding job modifying programs where possible to cater for the conditions. I am very proud of the boys, who remained in good spirits despite the rain and, for the most part, demonstrated the resilience we encourage in them. I apologise for all the damp and dirty clothing that will hit your washing baskets, but your sons have certainly built shared memories they will talk about in years to come.
This week we offered a program at the College where staff and boys hosted staff and students from the Eileen O’Conner Catholic College at Lewisham. Our boys had the chance to create meaningful connections with our guests and while they were sometimes challenged as they did, it was wonderful to see those connections grow. The program covered art, science, library, dance, music and sport sessions as well as tours, games in and around the Space Frame and plenty of time for socialising. Our boys proved to be excellent hosts.
As you will have read in the media, new Covid restrictions are being introduced from 5.00pm tonight until 12.00am on Monday. What will this mean for Newington College? Our boys and staff who travel on public transport will be required to wear a mask; boys using the school bus will also be required to wear a mask.
Sport will proceed on Saturday, however we ask that only two adults per player attend and that they sign in using the QR Code. If they are attending an indoor sporting event masks must be worn.
It is important that if you or your boys have been to any of the hot spots listed here that you immediately get a Covid test. Should Government restrictions change tomorrow or over the weekend we will be in contact.
Next week, we will be back on campus and our Year 7 and 9 boys will complete NAPLAN testing. Our Year 8-11 boys will have their Mentor group photos taken on Tuesday, so be sure they are in full blazer uniform, cleanly shaven with neat and tidy hair.
If you have not completed the MMG Parent Survey please do, as it provides the College with valuable feedback.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the Newington College mums a very Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday.
Enjoy your weekend.
