Dear parents and guardians,
The school year is drawing to a close, with just over 2 weeks to go and 37 days until Christmas! There is still a lot in the College calendar between now and then.
Year 8 finish assessments today and Year 7 and 10 tomorrow, ending the 2021 assessment and examination period. Normal classes resume for all boys from Monday. We have reminded boys (and would appreciate if you could too) that their teachers are still writing their reports. How they engage with their learning and their peers is just as important, if not more so, than their assessment marks.
Thursday 2 December is our Valedictory Day Assembly where we will farewell the Class of 2021. The assembly will be held on Johnson Oval, weather permitting, and all boys are expected to attend. The parents of Year 12 boys are invited to attend and will need to show proof of vaccination or a contraindication certificate at the entry gates. The event will be recorded and live streamed for those unable to attend. We will also use this assembly to present prizes to Year 12 prize winners. Boys in Years 7 – 11 will be dismissed after the assembly and tunnel (the excitement and emotion of the tunnel means there is a chance this might run slightly overtime).
The next event in the calendar is our Annual Prize Giving on Monday 6 December. Again, we will hold this event outdoors on Johnson Oval. Parents are invited to attend and will need to show proof of vaccination or a contraindication certificate at the entry gates. The event will be recorded and live streamed for those unable to attend. Boys receiving prizes will be notified closer to the date when all marks from the recent assessments and examinations have been submitted.
Tuesday 7 December is ‘Mentor Big Day Out’. This is a great day for all boys and a fantastic way to end the school year. Mentors have been planning many varied and different activities with their mentees and will communicate with the boys in due course.
2021 has been a challenging year for boys, parents and staff. A minority of boys are not currently presenting the best version of themselves in some classes. Mr Quinane and I spoke with Year 7 and 8 this week about their behaviour and the importance of finishing the school year well and we will deliver the same message to all year groups over the next few days.
Your help in reiterating the importance of finishing strong would be very welcome.
Have a relaxing weekend.
