Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am always impressed by the diverse range of talent amongst the boys, not only on the sporting field but across all aspects of co-curricular life at the College. On Tuesday night I had the privilege of attending the Middle Years Ensembles Showcase and what a marvellous night of entertainment. At the end of the night when Mr Mark Scott, Head of Music, was wrapping things up he spoke to the boys and parents about all that they learn from their music. Mr Scott stepped into an unfamiliar realm when he spoke about neural pathways and firing synapses, yet the message was nonetheless very succinct and clear. Our boys benefit in so many ways from learning a musical instrument and being part of an ensemble. Music not only gives them a chance to explore their emotions but they can learn from, and be inspired by, their brilliant teachers and other boys also on this musical journey with them.
The Headmaster spoke briefly to the boys at assembly yesterday about how proud he was of the character displayed by our First and Second XV when they played Joeys on the weekend. In what could only be described as challenging conditions, the boys rose to the occasion and played with real determination and courage. We were equally proud of our other teams, including the 16Cs, who then enjoyed a post-match swim in the makeshift lake on the rain soaked Joeys oval number 3.
I hope you all enjoy the long weekend with your families. Our boys are tired so please ensure they have the opportunity to rest and recharge for the final two weeks of the term.
