Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Wednesday our assembly recognised the many and varied talents of our boys.
Our Year 8 and Senior B Debating teams presented the FED Competition Debating Trophies to the Headmaster, and Kelvin Du (11/ME) was recognised as a semifinalist in the National 2017 BHP Billiton Science and Engineering Awards. His science project was titled: Do warm air dryers in public toilets need regular disinfection?
We wished the 21 members of the Rifle Shooting teams all the best for the upcoming AAGPS Rifle Shooting 2-day event to be held on the 18 and 19 July. We also announced the 2017 Rugby Sports Captains, Angus Duvall (12/FL) and Rory Lynch (12/ME).
The assembly concluded with a speech and video presentation by James Haldane (12/JN) from the First XVI, a student-led support group, which urged all boys to get behind each of our Winter Co-curricular teams in the upcoming weeks.
Last night, the 1st XI Football team competed in the CIS Cup and claimed a very gutsy 2–1 win over Oakhill College. They will now progress to the final against Riverview in the first week of Term 3.
This Sunday, Newington’s Intermediate and Senior Theatresports teams will compete in the Impro Australia School’s State Final at the Enmore Theatre! We are the only school to have teams in both State Finals. We wish Finn Hoegh-Guldberg (10/MO), Philip Langshaw (10/MA), James Evans (9/FL), Rory Olsson (10/ME), Dominic Young (10/PR), Simon James (11/PR), Nick Fitzsimmons (11/FL), and Lachlan McIntyre (11/JN) the best of luck.
It is pleasing to see so many of our boys excelling in so many different areas.
