Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was a big weekend for Newington College with boys and staff involved in productions, rock concerts, fencing and theatresports.
I would like to thank all the boys and staff that were involved in The 39 Steps and Rockfest, both on the stage and behind the scenes, but would also like to commend the Newington Community for coming along to support these students and help ensure both events were a huge success.
In Brisbane over the same weekend, our Fencing teams competed at the National Titles. Our Senior Sabre A team was awarded a Silver Medal, and Ben Diskin (9/MO) was selected for the Australian Cadet Team. A great result.
Then on Sunday afternoon, our Theatresports teams took to the stage at Enmore Theatre in the State Finals. Our Senior Team placed 2nd by just 1 point, and our Intermediate Team placed 3rd. Simon James (11/PR) was awarded the Elliott Miller Prize for Most Valuable Improviser – senior division. Once again the support shown by the Newington Community for the boys was overwhelming and appreciated by those performing.
These events have helped us to finish Term 2 on a high note, and as we head into the mid-year holiday we still have so much happening at the College. During this holiday we have more than 200 boys, staff, parents and guardians travelling overseas or interstate on the following tours:
- UK Cricket Tour
- Red Centre Service Learning Tour
- Modern History Europe and Russia Tour
- Tonga Rugby and Service Learning Tour
- U14 Kanga Cup
- U13 Rugby Tour
- IBC Football Cup
- NSW All Schools Snow Sports
Not to mention the boys and staff that will be attending the many camps and training sessions that will be held.
It is wonderful to see so many boys taking advantage of these many and varied opportunities and I thank the staff for providing them.
I wish you all a wonderful mid-year break and look forward to another great term when we return on Monday 17 July, 2017.
