Dear Parents and Guardians,
First week back is always a busy time at Newington. This week, the boys have been involved in a range of activities from Flamenco to Chinese Calligraphy to celebrate World Languages Week hosted by the Language Department. This celebration of our cultural diversity concludes with the Language Poetry Evening and Showcase tonight.
Last night, our 1st XI Football contested the final of the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Football Cup against St Ignatius’ College Riverview. Riverview scored in the first half and our boys held them to it throughout a tightly fought game of defence but were unable to score, and so were defeated 1-0.
Congratulations to our boys who competed over two days at the GPS Rifle Shooting Competition to succeed not only as GPS Premiers but also GPS Champions. The last time Newington won the Premiership was in 1935. This is the first time ever that Newington has won all three stages to become GPS Champions.
Congratulations to all boys who showed both spirit and camaraderie and demonstrated composure with a steady hand under tremendous pressure.
With only one week to go until Founders Concert, our orchestra, ensembles and choir members are busy in rehearsal. This year’s concert is themed around ‘The Traveller’. We look forward to your company on the night.
