Dear Parents and Guardians,
On a warm and sunny Saturday, we held Back to Newington Day. I would like to thank the 350 volunteers who helped make this day one of the best on record, and I would also like to share some fun facts about the day.
We consumed:
- 1121 sausages
- 2200 rolls
- 450 steaks
- 12 kilos of hummus and tabouli
- 1440 eggs
- 50 kilos of onions
- 142 Litres of Milk
- 200 corn on the cob; and
- 1026 bottles of water
It was a great day for everyone who attended and we managed to increase revenue by 37% over 2016. All funds raised are given back to the boys.
Sir Talbot Duckmanton CBE (ONU 1938), and Chairman of the Newington College Council (1968-1973) was honoured at an assembly on Monday with the naming of the Duckmanton Drama Centre. Sir Talbot Duckmanton was involved in Drama at Newington and is most well-known for his development of the Australian Broadcasting Commission, as we know it today, from 1939 through to his retirement in 1982. During his 17 years as ABC General Manager he was a keen supporter of the Arts. He is one of the most significant Newington Old Boys in Australian public life.
And finally, Headmaster, Dr David Mulford, announced he will retire from Newington College at the end of 2018. It will mark ten years of service at Newington, twenty-seven years as a Headmaster and forty-four years as a school master. As the College Chairman, Mr Tony McDonald (ON 1976), communicated, “there will be many opportunities to express our appreciation, laud his achievements and to suitably say farewell…Dr Mulford leaves Newington in a very healthy state in all core aspects of the College, and therefore uniquely placed to attract candidates of the highest calibre for the role of Headmaster starting in January 2019”.
