Dear Parents and Guardians,
At assembly this week we recognised the talented students at Newington with a special Creative Arts Assembly. We enjoyed musical performances by the Big Band and Stanmore Strings and welcomed Jack Moffitt (ON 2007) as our guest speaker. Jack is the lead guitarist in The Preatures, an award winning band he formed with schoolmate bass guitarist Thomas Champion (ON 2007). Jack spoke to the boys about creativity, and how he was able to transfer his learning into his career. He spoke about the responsibility of the creative to draw attention to issues in the community.
Drama Captain Daniel Steel (12/LE) showed us a photo collage of all the Drama events year to date, and Colours were awarded to Fin Casey (12/KL), Nicholas Fitzsimmons (11/FL), Simon James (11/PR) and Lachlan McIntyre (11/JN).
The P&F Inaugural Visual Arts Acquisition Prize 2017 was presented by Mrs Burkitt-Doyle to the following boys:

- Second prize Darcy Collins (10/JN) – “Footlocker”, Monoprint on Paper.
- Third prize Anton Fichtenmaier (11/MO) – “Untitled”, Charcoal on Paper.
We were also privileged to watch Elmore Alexander’s (12/FL) HSC short film titled “Reciprocity”, an exploration of ideas about connection, emotion, time and relationships.
