Dear Parents and Guardians,
I trust all families are well rested after the summer break and ready for a busy Term 1, 2018.
I would like to thank our Grounds and Maintenance teams who have been extraordinarily busy over the summer break completing a large number of projects that will enhance the Newington College campus. I would also like to thank the staff who contributed to, and participated in, the many camps and other activities that were held over the break.
ADMINISTRATION DAY
Monday, 29 January, Term 1 starts with our Administration Day.
Administration Day will go ahead as planned. We are closely monitoring the situation around Sydney’s transport system. If there is any change to arrangements the College will contact you via text message over the weekend and more details will be placed on SPACES.
Administration Day is compulsory for all boys, so please plan ahead and allow time to travel. Extra parking has been made available on Old Boys Oval. Year 7, 2018 have a full-day orientation program, and Years 8-12 have “Meet the Mentor” interviews. Numerous forums will run throughout the day for both parents and students, and all boys must have their individual photo taken. ACADEMIC RESULTS
Newington College has received its second perfect score in the 2017 International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Matthew Putt’s (ON 2017) total mark was upgraded to 45 – the highest possible score – after his English paper was reassessed by IB markers this week.
Matthew joins Mitchell Long (ON 2017), who also received 45 in the IBDP. The mark equates to an ATAR of 99.95.
In the 2017 Year 12 cohort, 40 percent of boys scored an ATAR over 90 and 81 percent of boys achieved ATARs of more than 70. It is a very strong set of results, and credit to the hard work and dedication of the boys, teachers and parents. Newington College is delighted with the achievements of every one of its 2017 HSC, IB and VET students, and looks forward to hearing about their future endeavours.
FAMILY ZONE
One of the sessions that will be repeated throughout the day on Monday is an introductory session to Family Zone. Click here for more information on how Family Zone could assist in the management of technology in your household.
