Dear Parents and Guardians,
Week 5 is about to come to a close. The term is now in full swing and your boys are settled and achieving in all areas across the College.
I would like to share a powerful speech made by our Deputy Senior Prefect, Alexander Humphreys (12/JN) at assembly this week. Alexander spoke about individuals who manage to inspire others – people like Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandella, Martin Luther King and Malala Yousafzai. History proves one person can influence the “many” in a variety of ways. If you are willing to ignore the judgement of others, if you are willing to ignore the pressure to stop doing what you believe is right, or ignore the pressure to stop doing something you love, you will inspire others to join your cause.
As individuals, we deserve the chance to do the things we enjoy and stand up for what we believe in. As friends, we have the obligation to support our mates on that journey. Alexander’s closing words were powerful: “Don’t be afraid to stand out, and don’t be afraid to support those who do. An empowered individual leads to an empowered collective. Every boy in this school has the potential to empower us all”.
Tonight is the opening Guys and Dolls. More than 120 boys in Years 8-12 are involved. They started working on this performance last year, and have been rehearsing solidly all term. To the actors, musicians and stage hands I say “Break a leg“.
There are an increasing number of parents collecting boys after school from the top car park. This is not a pick-up area and by double parking in different directions you are putting the safety of your boys and our staff at risk. You will be asked to move on, so please use the designated pick-up area.
Thank you for the generous donations we have received to date for the Tupou College Cyclone Appeal. Tonga is in desperate need, and we still require building equipment, canned food and more to help our brother school recover. Our aim is to fill a 20-foot shipping container, and there is still plenty of room. Click here to see how you can help.
I would like to thank in advance all the boys who will take part in Clean Up Australia Day this Sunday.
Have a wonderful weekend.
