Dear Parents and Guardians,
The school term is in full swing and boys have settled into the routine of 2020 beautifully. This week we announced our Captains of Swimming, Samuel Lye and Edward Wydell, our Captains of Basketball, Mack Fell and Kelly Delahunty, and the leaders of Newington Challenge, Felix Laubi, Samuel Gresham and Benjamin Diskin along with our Newington Cadet leaders Sam Lydon, Mack Fell, Max Langford, Woojin Lee and Zack McGeechen. In all, 50 boys were presented to Mr Michael Parker. Congratulations to all our 2020 leaders.
It’s a busy time at Newington, and one that requires parents to be across a lot of information. Spaces, our College intranet, is our central source of truth and I encourage you to join the Space for each activity your son is involved in. Individual Spaces – which cover sport, co-curricular, year groups, House groups and more – will include information about tours, expressions of interest, fixtures – essentially, everything connected to that activity. Subscribing to individual Spaces helps us keep you informed without overloading your inbox with emails. If you need assistance in joining a Space, please contact our ICT team.
Next week is the first House Competition Day for 2020. This is a community day where boys compete in volleyball, four-court tennis and modified softball in teams that are a mix of students from Year 7 to 12. The focus is on participation, enjoyment and encouragement. Full College PE uniform must be worn to and from school.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of the terms of your son’s enrolment agreement. The terms of your agreement state that “all students must participate in and/or attend the following activities, as determined by the Headmaster: (a) The College sports program; (b) co-curricular activities”. Year 7 to 12 parents who are seeking leave from Saturday sport (without weekday leave), must email Mr Ed Summers, Senior Sports Administrator with their request. It should not be assumed leave will be approved; however, we do recognise at times there are exceptional circumstances due to family emergencies.
I look forward to seeing the boys at their respective sports this weekend.
