Dear Parents and Guardians,
Over three days this week, Newington College has held its 8th biennial Literature Festival. The Festival encourages our boys to take part in the adventure of books and reading. Through their English classes the boys have had the opportunity to discuss and familiarise themselves with the work of the presenters they have been meeting and working with. Most of the students in Years 7–10 will be studying the novel of one of the presenters who will be attending the Festival and will have the opportunity of attending workshops with the author.
To document the Literature Festival, a team of student reporters and photographers have created three daily publications to document the highlights of the event. Mentored by freelance reporter, Jack Lynch, and English Teacher, Dr Billy Stephenson, the Postscript team will work hard to meet deadlines, write reviews, interview authors, and photograph the highlights of each day to get their work published and distributed to attendees of the festival. Make sure you follow this link to enjoy the results of their hard work. Click here to read Postscript.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ann Jagger, Sabine Tanase, Terence Priester, Richard Wheeldon, Joanne Barnes, Tamara Smith, Linda Munns-Conroy and Sue Gough for all their hard work and a special thanks to Billy Stevenson for organising and working with the Postscript boys.
We are now into week two of the winter sport season and will be hosting a large number of fixtures across all sports at home this weekend. I want to take this opportunity to remind all spectators to reacquaint themselves with the AAGPS code of conduct. As the term continues the boys will also be required to attend sport training at external venues and this is a reminder that the welfare of the boys is paramount to us, so if a parent has not arrived by the time the bus is scheduled to leave all unaccompanied boys must be taken back to Newington College by bus.
