Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Monday and Tuesday evening this week we held our Junior and Senior Concerto Competition. The standard of the performances I observed was a credit to all involved; parents, teachers and of course the students. The hours and hours of practice was evident – well done to all involved.
At assembly this week we were privileged to have the 2016 Newington Medal recipients, Mr Ian Webster (ON 1970) and Dr Ian Penn (ON 1970) as guest speakers. Mr Webster spoke about the need to constantly adapt to changes that will be presented to the boys during their school life and professional career. Dr Penn spoke about the need to take calculated risks and how this had impacted on his career as he moved from philosophy, to medicine to art where he is currently our artist in residence.
We also had representatives from the Salvation Army join us to launch the 2017 Red Shield Appeal. Stephen Briggs addressed the assembly and at its conclusion many of the boys signed up for the Red Shield Appeal on Sunday 28 May.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the Newington College Mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day this Sunday.
