Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last Sunday, 275 boys from Years 10 to 12, and 85 parents and staff took part in the annual Red Shield Appeal. We were blessed on the day with clear blue skies. The public responded well to the charm and exemplary behaviour of our boys, enabling us to raise a total of $18,146 on the day. Thank you to Mr Mick Madden for organising the event and to our guests from Rotary who looked after the ‘post collection’ BBQ for our boys. Mr Madden’s focus continues to be on providing practical opportunities that provide experience for our boys to learn what comes from working together with their community to assist those less fortunate.
On Wednesday evening, the College community enjoyed listening to Australian cartoonist, writer, painter, philosopher and poet, Michael Leunig deliver “What I have found to be true”, part of the Centre for Ethics Public Lecture series. Rather than ‘inspirational’—in his own words Mr Leunig dubbed his address ‘pers-pirational’—a personal account of what he sees as true; our peculiar uniqueness, our capacity to bear each other’s difference, as well as explaining the “unholy alliance” of the teapot and duck that have made consistent appearances in his cartoons over the years. Mr Leunig offered a window into his enjoyment of taking a lyrical look at life and left us with a vision for humanity. We thank him for his time as well as Dr Jeremy Hall for the wonderful work he does in bringing great thinkers from all walks of life to our community so we will be challenged in our perspectives and enlightened to seek more meaning in our lives.
