Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last Friday our Year 7 boys came together to enjoy a Father/Son breakfast in Centenary Hall. The event celebrated the important bond between boys and their fathers and was a great opportunity for the Year 7 boys and their fathers to get to know each other. Events like this are not possible without the support of NEW Women, so I would like to thank Helen Graham, Kathy Walsh and the team of volunteers who co-ordinated this event for our boys. We held our Co-Curricular and Athletics Send Off Assembly yesterday. Congratulations to Joshua Macdessi (10/MO) AFL Be st and Fairest Medal, Jack Murtough-Coombes (11/KL) Pioneer Cup, Alexander Lorquet (12/MO) Music Colours and VET Excellence Award for Hospitality, our Tennis and Basketball Teams who won NSW All Schools Competitions, our Thirds Debating Team who were awarded the Rostrum Trophy and Jarrah Lindhout (12/KL) who was awarded the Richard Thompson Memorial Price and the ONU Service Prize. We also recognised over 50 boys who were awarded their Gold Service Learning Award.
In the lead up to R U OK? Day which is today, Tom Langford (12/LE) spoke about the stigma associated with mental health. He invited everyone to wear colourful socks today as a way of raising awareness and starting those conversations. As Tom says “you don’t need to be an expert, just a great mate and a good listener. People won’t judge you for coming forward and talking about any concerns that you may have.” So please do not hesitate to ask each other “R U OK?” For more information click here
This Sunday our Cadets and Newington Challenge Boys head to camp, returning next Thursday.
Boys in Years 9 & 10 who are not going on camp will be at home with their parents during this time. Term 3 will end for all boys in Years 7-11 on Friday 22 September at 12.50pm.
Enjoy the last week of Term 3.
