Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are now over half way through Term 4 and in exam mode. It was wonderful catching up with many of our Year 12 HSC boys as they exited their final examinations which finished on Tuesday. The Year 12 IB boys and the Year 10 boys are close to completing their yearly exams, with Year 9 starting exams next Monday. By Friday, 17 November all boys will have completed their exams and will return to the normal school timetable on Monday, 20 November. A reminder that there will be no Cadets or Newington Challenge during the remainder of the exam period.
Part of the College’s plan for continual improvement is to review what is offered to our boys and our wider community in all areas of the College. We have recently looked at our current Swim Program, and it is with great pleasure that I announce that we will be opening the NewSPORT Swim School in 2018. The Swim School will offer a structured Learn to Swim program catering to all ages. Lessons will take place in our indoor, heated 25 metre pool. For more information about this new initiative please click here.
This week our Year 11 Geography students went on a field trip to the Snowy Mountains. Whilst we enjoyed relatively pleasant weather in Sydney, they experienced minus 8-degree wind chill, snow (as pictured) and an abundance of learning opportunities, but no doubt they are happy to be home.
Tomorrow we will hold our Remembrance Day Service at the College where we will pause and remember the sacrifice of those who died or otherwise suffered in conflict. On your next walk into Founders Building or Centenary Hall, I encourage you to stop and read the names of the Old Boys and staff who served their College and their nation, in defence of peace and democracy. “Thank you.”
