Dear Parents and Guardians,
After the First VIII completed their race at the Head of the River on Saturday Alex Potter (12/ME) stood up and thanked everyone for their support and explained how much it meant to our rowers. The entire school is proud of Alex and all the boys. They gave their best on Saturday. I would also like to acknowledge the First XVI who are led by David Fowler (12/LE). These boys did a fantastic job in leading our College in support of our rowers.
I look forward to seeing the same level of support for our Swimmers when they compete this Friday evening at SOPAC. It’s also a big night for our debaters in the ISDA competition so we wish them well too!
This week we celebrate a win of a different kind – the success of our Year 10 Mathematics Enrichment group. Our boys competed against 5 other schools at the talented student’s day and took out first prize! The day consisted of a variety of competitive problem-solving challenges of increasing difficulty. Our boys behaved impeccably and took out many individual wins along the way to the main prize – the “Best Performing School”. We are fortunate to have champions in the class room, on the stage, in the pool, on the courts and grounds and in service learning.
Our boys are all part of the Newington Community and with that comes expectation and responsibility. It is expected that your boys will:
- Wear their uniform as per College uniform regulations;
- Be well behaved on public transport. For example, they should give up their seat to fare paying passengers, take their rubbish with them, and be sensible when waiting on the platform or at the bus stop;
- Remove earphones and place mobile phones in their bag or pocket when walking to and from school;
- Use technology sensibly, by being aware of their Internet footprint, and the long-range consequences of putting inappropriate information into cyberspace.
Please check in with your sons on these points.
Enjoy the weekend with your boys. I hope you will find something in my message that allows you to start a conversation …
