Dear Parents and Guardians,
We recognised exceptional performances from many of our boys at the Summer Sports Assembly this week. Captain of Swimming Lachlan Sheehy presented Headmaster with the AAGPS Intermediate Division Winners Trophy on behalf of our Intermediate Swimming team and our Captain of Water Polo, Max Lowry presented Headmaster with the AAGPS Champions Shield on behalf of the 1sts Water Polo team. Congratulation to all the boys in those teams.
Many other excellent results were also celebrated at the special assembly; in all, 90 boys were recognised for their efforts and achievements throughout the 2018/19 summer sports season. Sixty of these boys also received Co-curricular Colours or Letters. These acknowledge an outstanding level of achievement, effort and commitment to each boy’s chosen sport.
This weekend, we turn to winter sports as the College competes against Trinity in Rugby and Football for the AJ Rae Shield. I look forward to seeing our boys display spirit and determination – and hope we retain the shield for another year. There will be later rounds of AFL, Chess, Debating, Fencing and Volleyball that will all contribute to the final point score.
Next week marks the end of Term 1 and the departure of some members of staff. Mr Gary Maxwell and Mr Andrew Davies will take long service leave, and Mrs Anne Moylan and Ms Hannah Chapman will take maternity leave. Mr Matt Holdgate, after 5 years’ service, will return to New Zealand to take up the position of Housemaster (Boarding) of Williams House at Saint Paul’s Collegiate School in Hamilton.
We will also farewell the familiar sight and sound of Mr Jock Canning. Mr Canning has been a fixture around Stanmore for 40 years and he leaves us to take a position at Knox Grammar, which is closer to his home. We thank Mr Canning for his 40 years of service and wish him every success in his new role.
Please remember the Liberty Street railway underpass will be closed all weekend, with access via Crystal Street.
Enjoy the last week of term.
