Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Term 3 2019. I hope you enjoyed the mid-year break and I look forward to seeing our boys back at the College on Monday.
During the break our property and grounds teams work overtime. The property team has completed the redevelopment of the student services centre, the kitchen renovation in the Edmund Webb Boarding House, the addition of four microwaves outside the cafeteria, the resurfacing of the space frame, painting and removed windows from the Founders building for restoration amongst other things. The grounds department have also been hedging, pruning and mulching, distributing 40 cubic metres of mulch to the garden beds around the College.
I also want to take the opportunity to thank the staff who made so many wonderful opportunities available to our boys during these holidays. These included the UK Cricket Tour, Cambodia and Vietnam History Tour, Gold Coast Rugby Tour, Red Centre Service Learning Tour, Tonga Service Learning and Rugby Tour, IBC Cup Football in Adelaide, Senior Boys Rugby Camp, Celtic Football Camp, Snow Sport Division Races and Rifle Shooting. Thank you also to the boys who represented themselves and the College with distinction.
The first two weeks of Term 3 see us welcome new staff and students and a Centre for Ethics lecture from Dr Stephen Law, our philosopher-in-residence, who will speak on “The War for Children’s Minds” on Wednesday 31 July. Our annual Founders Concert will be held on Thursday 1 August. One of the highlights of the Newington calendar, Back to Newington Day, is on Saturday 3 August, bringing with it entertainment, markets, foods stalls and some great sporting fixtures. We look forward to seeing families and friends there. Add to that Sport and Co-curricular activities, subject information evenings and Year 11 and 12 exams and yes, it will be another busy term.
Our 2020 Senior Leaders will be named at the end of this term as we farewell Year 12 2019. There is an extensive program of events planned for the boys and these will be communicated to all Year 12 parents and guardians mid-term.
Finally, a reminder to boys to return to the College in full blazer uniform, cleanly shaven and with neat and tidy hair.
