Dear Parents and Guardians,
“Are you the type of person who has the capacity to look at physical materials and see shapes and colours within that need to be freed? Can you channel a palette of emotions and then have the courage to share these emotions through a variety of representations on stage? Do you possess the mental strength to focus your energy hour after hour in order to incrementally improve the execution of a scale that may only last a couple of seconds in a final performance?” These are the questions our Acting Head of Co-curricular Mr Mark Scott used to open our Creative Arts Assembly on Wednesday.
We celebrated the dedication of the boys who devote their time to engaging with Drama, Music and Visual Arts. We presented 32 boys with Co-curricular colours for Drama and Music and awarded the P&F Art Acquisition prizes. First place went to Alexander Rumi (11/FL) for his painting Untitled (acrylic watercolour pen on canvas, pictured above), with second place to Will Angus (11/MA), and third place to Tully Suttie (10/LE). The high quality of the work this year meant the introduction of a Highly Commended Award – congratulations Rueben Agius (10/JN).
To fully appreciate the talent of our boys I invite you to visit Afrayed Knot IB exhibition which is showing at Concordia Gallery until this Saturday. This exhibition showcases 13 individual presentations of thematically diverse works through painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture and film.
This weekend marks the end of winter sport for 2019. I look forward to seeing you at these final fixtures.
