Dear Parents and Guardians,
The depth of talent among our musicians, artists and performers was celebrated at our 2018 Creative Arts Assembly yesterday. Colours and prizes were awarded to 57 boys across Drama, Musical and Visual Arts. We enjoyed musical performances by the Junior String Quartet and the Senior Flute Ensemble, video from this year’s musical Guys and Dolls, and paintings and a short film from Visual Arts students. These boys have shown enormous dedication, determination and resilience, and the recognition they received from our students, staff and families was well deserved.
Tonight, there is an opportunity to see our boys perform at the ACC Comedy Night fundraiser and to view an exhibition of Bodies of Work produced by HSC Visual Arts students.
Every speaker at the assembly urged boys to get involved in the Creative and Performing Arts. It is never too late to step outside your comfort zone and get involved. Head of Co-curricular Mr Peter Wilkins encouraged our students to “be brave and try something new” and closed with a quote from Shakespeare: “Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt. “
Saturday is Back to Newington Day. It is the biggest day in the Newington calendar with so much to see and do. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parent volunteers and staff who make this day such a success. Attendance by students is compulsory, and dress is full blazer uniform or full sports tracksuit (no hoodies please). Our guests are The Kings School and I hope you will join me in making them welcome along with all our other guests and neighbours.
Finally, a reminder to boys that our uniform speaks volumes about who we are. Being a Newington man means taking pride in our appearance, and I encourage parents to check their sons are adhering to the College dress code.
I look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
