Dear Parents and Guardians,
On a beautiful winter day last Saturday, we held Back to Newington Day. I would like to thank the 400 volunteers from all three campuses who helped make this day one of the best on record. The numbers below illustrate the level of enthusiasm for one of our flagship events.
We withdrew $22,000 from the ATM which helped us consume:
2361 cups of coffee
160kg of steak
3000 bread rolls
A 30kg pig on a spit (in under 45 minutes)
45kg of falafel
700 kebabs, and
56kg of lemons.
On top of that, we bought 400 donated cakes!
All funds raised support our boys’ co-curricular programs.
We welcomed more than 5000 visitors, who helped cheer our sporting teams on to some great results. Newington played 66 fixtures on the day and won 55 outright with a further 3 draws.
Our Year 7 initiative to collect donations to help the rural communities devasted by drought, was a huge success with the boys raising more than $6500. The generosity of the P&F, New Women, Wyvern and Lindfield campuses will see this amount reach more than $10,000. The money will go to Buy a Bale. This is a great start to our Year 7 charity fundraising efforts.
I would like to wish all families a relaxing weekend, and to remind you that next Monday, 20 August, is our staff professional development day and as such the boys are not required to attend school.
