Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Wednesday we held our Co-curricular Assembly, presenting 137 boys with Colours and Awards. Congratulations to Angus Beer (12/ME) who was awarded Triple Sporting Colours. Triple Colours are the highest recognition for contribution to sport at Newington and have only been awarded on seven occasions since 1981.
On Saturday, as Captain of the Newington College Athletics team, Angus will lead a team of 57 boys as they compete at SOPAC. The championships will go ahead regardless of the weather, and boys are required to wear full blazer uniform, so I would ask that all boys bring their own wet weather gear. This year it will be compulsory for students in Years 8, 11 and 12 to attend, however students in Years 7, 9 and 10 are also welcome. The AAGPS have approved the live streaming of the Athletics and you will find the link here.
Tomorrow we will be hosting a Year 12 Parent/Son breakfast before the start of House Festival Day. Boys in Year 12 are to wear smart casual attire to the breakfast before changing into their House Festival outfits for a photograph on the steps of Centenary Hall. All other boys are expected to wear full College tracksuit to and from school.
On Sunday, boys will leave for the annual Cadet and Newington Challenge Camps, returning on Thursday afternoon. I am looking forward to joining the boys at the Challenge Camp in the Murramarang National Park on Monday and Mr Parker will head to the Cadet Camp on Wednesday.
Friday 27 September is Valedictory Day, a big day in the Newington College calendar. The College will farewell our Year 12 2019 boys and announce our 2020 Senior Leaders. Years 8–11 will be dismissed at 12.50pm and Year 7 at 1.10pm.
On the same day, after 51 years, we will farewell our College Cafeteria team, Alliance. We thank them for their years of loyal service to the staff and boys of Newington. To help them with the exit process, the canteen will be closed on Friday 27 September.
I wish our athletes every success on Saturday.
