Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week we announced our Music and Drama leaders and our SRC representatives for 2019. Our Junior Theatresports team – Nicholas Disher (8/ME), Stanley Martin (7/KL), Zac McCutcheon (8/PR), Bodie Young (7/PR) and Jeremy Tran (captain, 8/ME) -presented Dr Mulford with the winning Impro Australia Junior Theatresports Challenge Trophy. This is a huge achievement for these boys considering 3 of the boys had never competed in a Theatresports competition before. Newington now proudly holds the top prize for the Junior, Intermediate and Senior competitions held in 2018.
Tesla are on campus today and tomorrow with their Tesla Tiny House and electric vehicle (pictured above). Boys and staff heard a keynote presentation on the importance of sustainability, renewable energy and the future. The boys had fun exploring the Tesla Tiny House and had a Tesla motor specialist on hand to answer their many questions. Please ask your son about his experience.
Next week, a lot will happen in just three and a half days. Our Year 12 2019 boys will complete assessments until the end of term. Prize winners will be announced on Monday and those boys will be needed at an Annual Prize Giving rehearsal on Wednesday. Our 45 Tongan visitors arrive on Tuesday. I would like to thank all the families who generously offered to host our Tongan friends. There will be multiple music rehearsals in preparation for 156th Annual Prize Giving. On Thursday, at a special assembly, the boys will farewell staff who are leaving Newington College, including Dr David Mulford, who will retire after 10 years as Headmaster.
On Thursday, boys will be dismissed after our final assembly which is scheduled to finish at 12.50 pm. Click here for important end of term transport information.
Our Christmas Giving Tree for The Exodus Foundation has again been set up in reception. Could I encourage each boy to bring at least one contribution, however big or small, to place under the tree. This is an important learning opportunity for the boys and a timely reminder about the spirit of giving at Christmas time. We are asking for non-perishable foods or gifts for people of all ages. If boys decide to wrap their gift, please ask them to attach a card and specify what age and gender the gift is suitable for.
Finally, I ask our boys to finish the year strongly by attending all classes, wearing the correct uniform, being clean shaven and waiting until after our compulsory Annual Prize Giving on Friday, 7 December, for any experimental haircuts.
Enjoy the last week of term.
