Dear Parents and Guardians,
A warm and emotional final assembly was held today for our Headmaster, Dr David Mulford and other departing staff. The Cadet drumline signalled boys to form a guard of honour for Dr Mulford as he made his way from the Space Frame to the stage in Centennial Hall. Accompanying Dr Mulford were Mr Greg Pike and Mr Phil O’Rourke, who are retiring after 22 and 39 years respectively at Newington College.
We also farewelled Mr Michael Ha, Mr Peter Wilkins and Mr Will Van Asperen. These teachers are all moving on to exciting opportunities in 2019. It was a privilege to listen to our boys pay tribute to these staff members.
Our visitors, the Tupou College Choir performed a magnificent piece titled “Baba Yetu”. After listening to this performance, I can only imagine how amazing tomorrow evening and the weekend events will be – it will take your breath away.
As you know, tomorrow is Newington’s 156th Annual Prize Giving. It will be held in the Darling Harbour Theatre at the International Convention Centre, Darling Harbour.
Musicians should arrive at 1pm for rehearsals. They will be given a break between 4pm and 6pm to eat, rest and relax. Prize winners are expected to be seated by 6pm. The doors open to the public at 6.15pm and all guests and students are to be seated by 6.45pm. Prize Giving starts at 7pm sharp and will conclude around 9pm.
It promises to be a magnificent evening, and a fitting farewell to Dr David Mulford after 10 years at Newington, 27 as a Headmaster and 45 years as an educator.
Please join me tomorrow evening to recognize our prize winners and to farewell Dr David Mulford.
