Dear Parents and Guardians,
Academic excellence and sporting fun have been celebrated at Newington this week.
On Wednesday at our annual Academic Excellence Assembly, we recognised a group of young men who achieved exceptional academic success in 2019 and acknowledged the energy and commitment that brought each of them to this point. We awarded Academic Colours to 24 boys and first in course to 30 boys. We also celebrated the 12 boys whose major practical works were selected by NESA as exemplars for exhibition and performance. We awarded the Dux of Edmund Webb Boarding House and applauded the boys who received an ATAR or IBDP UAC rank of 99 or above. Congratulations to Angus Waldon (ON 2019) on receiving a perfect IB score of 45 equating to an ATAR of 99.95.
I congratulate these boys on their success and thank them for the example they have set.
Today the boys are competing in House Competition Day #1. They are competing in Volleyball, Softball and 4 Court Tennis. I have been told on reasonable authority that Fletcher House have taken the shield for this competition.
On a housekeeping note, we are aiming to speed up the purchase of food at morning tea and lunch in the Cafeteria. The best way to achieve this is to implement a ‘Cashless Cafeteria’. From Monday 2 March the Cafeteria will not be taking cash and boys will be asked to use their ‘My Student Account’. All the information and instructions can be found here. If there is a situation whereby your son needs to use cash, please ask him to see his Head of House who will facilitate this for him.
To the 100+ boys performing in Urinetown – the Musical, which opens tonight – break a leg.
