Dear parents and guardians,
It is great to have all the boys back on campus! They have settled in quickly and are back in routine. During the holidays many of our boys were competing in events and we have some very good news to share.
- Jett Leong (11/ME) represented NSW in the Under 18 Hockey Championships in Launceston. NSW won and Jett received a gold medal.
- Andre Grgurevic (12/FL) and Tom Harris (ON 2019) were selected for the Australian Youth Water Polo Team.
- Hamish Danks (12/MO) and Hugo Hobbs (12/MA) were selected for the U19 Australian Rowing Team.
- Our swim team also performed very well at the Australian Age Swimming Championships in Queensland.
We returned to our student-led assembly format and this week it was hosted by Fletcher House. Captain Joe Dyster (12/FL) gave our boys an insight into Fletcher House and Viliami Paongo (12/FL) and Seluini Fakaosifolau (12/FL) shared with us the history of Newington and Tupou College and a day in the life of a Tupou College student.
Viliami and Seluini then joined Manase Fonokalafi (11/FL) to sing, unaccompanied, a beautiful Tongan blessing. It was perfect.
We are now in the winter sport season, so it was appropriate to announce our winter sport captains. Pictured above from left to right with Headmaster and the Head of Sport Mr Mark Dickens are Captains Vincent De Souza – Cross Country, Gaelen Dorigo – Football, Henry Armstrong-Bailey – Fencing, Joe Dyster – AFL, Sebastian Hailwood – Rifle Shooting, Sam Eagleton – Rugby and Hamish Taylor – Volleyball. I congratulate all these boys.
Just a quick reminder about the MMG survey. As part of our continuous improvement process, we would like to give you the opportunity to provide feedback about the College across a wide range of areas. The survey will be available to all parents from Friday 23 April. The boys will also complete a student survey during Mentor period next Tuesday. I urge you to take the time to complete this survey as it provides the College with valuable feedback.
I hope to see you out and about at sporting fixtures this weekend.
