School Leaders Pass on Tips to Year 5
In preparation for coming Student Leadership opportunities, Year 5 welcomed Mr Wyatt and the current School Captain and House Captains into class for a panel discussion on ‘what it takes to be a good leader’. To lead is to put others first. While we might look keenly at what a boy has done in the past, what’s more important is what he can do in the future. We are looking for boys who can influence, inspire and care about others and the school.
Current primary leaders Andrew Himmelhoch, Thomas Bell and Simon James, gave their insight into their engagement with leadership in 2012, passing on some hints and tips.
Year 5 students engaged with these fine role models by asking questions and seeking advice that would help them to prepare for leadership aspirations, provide some insight into the nature of leadership and encourage them to be leaders, even without a badge.
Whilst targeted towards the Year 5 students, this was a fantastic opportunity for the three School Captains to help build the legacy of school leadership and further develop their own skills.
Year 5 boys finished the session with a heightened understanding of the role of student leadership, many more motivated than ever to seek the leadership opportunities. Congratulations to Andrew, Tom and Simon for being wonderful ambassadors for the roles and for being enthusiastic contributors to the discussion.
We look forward to receiving nominations from our aspiring Year 5 boys ready to take on challenge of School and House Captains for 2013.
