Faith Matters

Pawned?

Ever been to a pawnshop? Cash Converters or the like? You’ll find them in most major cities. The idea is simple; if you need money, you take a valuable item like jewellery or a musical instrument to the shop where the pawnbroker appraises it and gives you cash. But if you don’t return within the specified time to redeem the item, you forfeit ownership. Although it was yours originally, you no longer have legal possession till you pay the price to get it back. And if you wait too long, it can be lost forever.
Have you ever thought of yourself as somebody who needs to be redeemed, so you can be returned to your rightful owner? The Bible suggests that we are all like that and Jesus is the one who offers to pay the redemption price for us. The story of redemption starts at Christmas and finds it culmination at Easter.

String Concert

What a great concert on Tuesday evening.  Year 3 played really well in their final performance as string players.  Thank you for all the work that you have done over the year.  Year 2 have progressed really well since the beginning of the year.  They will now be playing more ensemble type pieces.  Thank you to the String Ensemble boys who came and played.

Band Concert

The Band Concert will be held this evening, the boys who play wind and brass instruments – Year 4 and Year 5 and the School Band will be involved.  We are looking forward to playing for you.  The concert will begin at 5.00pm, boys need to be here at 4.45pm to set up and warm up.

Instrumental Lessons

Please remember that when lessons finish at the end of Week 8, you will need to either fill in a hard copy of the instrument tuition form (these are found in the school office) or please fill one in online through the Stanmore Music area on Spaces: http://insites.newington.nsw.edu.au/instrument/ if you wish to continue.

Returning and Checking Instruments

All instruments need to be returned next week (Week 7).  The boys in Years 3 and 5, unless they are continuing to play them next year will not be taking them home again.  Boys in Years 2 and 4 will be handed a new agreement that needs to be signed and returned. Boys will then be taking the instruments home over the holidays – to occasionally play!

Boys who are in the various school ensembles that are playing over the coming weeks will be continuing to take their instruments home. If they are not returning to the school, or not continuing next year, these instruments will then be collected after their last performance or at Prize Giving.

Tuckshop News

A big thanks to everyone – part of the funds raised at the Parents and Friends Italian Night has assisted in the purchase of a new freezer for the Tuck Shop.  It will, hopefully, by the time you read this, be filled with stock.
Thanks also, to the boys for their patience due to diminished stock for the past few weeks –  all the ice treats will soon be back!!

Third lot of thanks: To all the wonderful volunteers, especially for filling in when unexpected circumstances cause late changes to the roster and you help out to keep me from too many melt-downs.  By the way, there’s a ‘help please’ for Thursday in the next two weeks – 21 and 28 November, on the 11-2 shift.
