WYVERN K – 2 BOYS TAKE PART IN RECORD BREAKING EVENT
On Wednesday 22 May at 11am the K – 2 Wyvern boys read ‘The Wrong Book’ by Nick Bland. In doing this, they joined over 415 000 children in 2,500 libraries, schools, childcare centres, preschools, homes and other locations to make National Simultaneous Storytime 2013 the most successful NSS event ever.
Kindy boys headed over to the Senior School Library under threatening grey skies to share this experience with Year 12 boys who read and discussed the story with them. They also shared a favourite book with a Year 12 boy in the tranquil setting of the Senior Library.
Year 1 & 2 boys read the story with their classroom teachers, Miss Wiseman, Mr Scott, Mrs Fryda and Mr Burke who each provided dramatic and entertaining renditions and a guided reading experience of the text. Later, the boys completed character reflections and opinion pieces based on the story. In Library lessons this week, the boys have had great fun revisiting the story using ‘The Wrong Book’ interactive story app which is available in the Apps Store.
An iMovie capturing some of the highlights of National Simultaneous Storytime at Wyvern is available to view here.
Here are some of the boys’ comments about the book:
I liked that there were green monsters in the book and they were funny. Ethan Koic (KL)
I liked the electronic book because peanuts came out of the elephant’s trunk. Jack Duddy (KB)
It gives children who don’t read books an opportunity to read them. William Richardson (1S)
I liked The Wrong Book because Nicholas Ickle kept saying “You’re in the wrong book”. At the end of the book we find out that the book was supposed to be about him. Christian Ishak (1W)
The book was really good, especially the pirate character. Ali Karnib (2B)
Nicholas was going a bit crazy in the book. He wanted all the characters to leave because he wanted the book to be all about him. Ishaan Patkar (2F)
