Viruses and Influenza
A Message from Newington’s School Nurse, Sr Margaret Bates – Senior School Campus
Currently we have reports of many of viruses circulating in the community and at school causing illness. This is widespread across Sydney.
Please keep your son at home from school if he is unwell, and especially if he has a fever or cough.
Encourage him to wash his hands with soap frequently, rest and drink plenty of fluids. Cover the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing; use tissues and dispose of them quickly.
Influenza type B is more prevalent at the moment with high fevers, general aches and joint pain especially in the chest, legs and lower back.
Please see your Doctor if you are concerned.
The flu vaccine is still available at your GP if you have not previously had it.
