More Than Meets The Eye
My favourite Dr. Seuss book is “On Beyond Zebra”. This is about a boy who boasts about his proficiency in saying the alphabet, only to be told …
“In the places I go there are things that I see
That I never could spell if I stopped with the Z.
I’m telling you this ‘cause you’re one of my friends.
My alphabet starts where your alphabet ends!
My alphabet starts with this letter call YUZZ.
It’s the letter I use to spell Yuzz-a-ma-Tuzz.”
The point being that we often take things at face value. We tend not to push beyond the obvious. We can be satisfied with first appearances, rather than pushing our comfort zones to dare I say, discover what’s possible.
Easter for many people falls into this category. It is accepted at face value … a Jew who lived 2000 years ago, made some outrageous claims, did some good stuff but ends up dying on a cross.
This Easter can I encourage you to take a journey On Beyond Zebra, to look for more than the obvious in the Easter story? To consider what God is doing behind the scenes so to speak?
The cross is God’s way of saying, “I know how you feel” and the resurrection is God’s way of saying, “there’s more to death than meets the eye.”
