A Message from Mr Holden
With just over one week left of Term 2, students continue to be very active and enthused with a range of exciting activities. Our Shakespeare Festival takes place next week where all grades and classes will take part in performances and workshops facilitated by performers from the Bell Shakespeare Company. I thank the Wyvern P and F for their practical and financial support of this event.
Semester 1 student reports will be available online from Thursday 23rd June. Please click here for further instructions on how to access your son’s report. In the Semester 1 reports we have adapted the format to clearly identify your son’s key strengths as well as areas for future learning in all subjects. We hope that this new format will allow for purposeful discussion at the parent teacher meetings scheduled in Term 3 (2nd August and 4th August). Details of how to book in a time slot for these meetings will be sent to you in early Term 3.
Many parents will, no doubt, use the upcoming break to attend to organising uniform, equipment and haircuts. We do have high expectations around student presentation so I urge parents to be familiar with Newington’s uniform standards (Wyvern’s General Guidelines and Procedures), so that boys are ready to start Term 3 in a positive fashion wearing the correct uniform. Please note that on sport training days, boys in Years 3 – 6 may wear their sports training kit but must wear their Newington tracksuit top to school. Whilst it is not our wish to impose an overly punitive approach, in order to maintain our high standards of student presentation we will be vigilant and follow up with any student who falls short of Newington’s uniform standards. Thank you for your assistance.
At the end of this term Ms Lucy Wright, Team Leader of our Learning Enhancement team will be leaving Wyvern due to her relocation to Queensland. Ms Wright has given many years of valuable service to the students and parents of the school and has made a most positive contribution. We thank her and wish her well in her future pathways. At the start of Term 3 we welcome Ms Andrea Martinez to the position of Learning Enhancement Team Leader. Ms Martinez has significant experience in this area in both international and Australian independent schools. Her email contact is amartinez@newington.nsw.edu.au
I hope that the upcoming winter break provides an opportunity for some quality family time and for boys to refresh and to recharge their batteries. I look forward to seeing boys return to school for Term 3 on Monday 18th July.
