A Message From Mr Holden

Wyvern Facilities Update

I am pleased to inform you that subject to the outcome of a final tendering process, the College Council has given the green light for the next phase of Wyvern’s facility upgrade which will include:

  • A 60 place co-educational Early Learning Centre for 3 and 4 year olds located on the ‘Braeside’ site on Cambridge Street.
  • A new Year 6 Learning Centre to be located on top of the Wyvern Zimmerman Library.
  • An upgrade of the Wyvern Hall, including new music practice facilities.
  • A new purpose built room for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) to be located adjacent to the Art room.

The planned timing of the above works is from the end of Term 4, 2016 through to the end of 2017.

Some early preparation work will start in Term 4 including the demolition of ‘Braeside’. As a result we will lose one play area next term but have appropriate contingency plans in place to ensure we continue to maximise our play space for boys.

As most of the planned building work is external to the current Wyvern site, we anticipate that for the majority of the construction we will operate in our usual way. However, later in 2017 there is likely to be some disruption to certain areas as the building phase enters the Wyvern Campus. We will of course provide you with further details of our contingency plans nearer to that time.

The exciting new development will, to all intents and purposes, complete the Wyvern facilities for the foreseeable future. Note, there are no plans for Wyvern to increase current enrolment numbers.

Dr Mulford will attend this evening’s P&F meeting at 7.00pm to talk about the new facilities.  Detailed plans of the new areas have been made available on the Wyvern Spaces page.

Staffing Update

At the end of this term our Acting Head of Music, Mrs Rowena Tall, departs Wyvern after two very busy and productive terms. I thank Rowena for her wonderful efforts in ensuring that students have continued to benefit from our vibrant music programs whilst Ms Alina Belshaw has been on maternity leave. We look forward to Ms Belshaw returning to her role as Head of Music from the start of Term 4.
