Class Allocation 2016
The process for allocating students to next year’s classes is thorough and starts in Term 4. As part of this process some parents may feel that they can assist by offering additional information about their son. Should you wish to express a view about the style of classroom management you feel may best your son (e.g. particularly nurturing or greater structure, etc.) I invite you to contact me via email before the end of this term. Please note that I cannot consider requests submitted later than this deadline.
Requests for particular teachers or for a teacher based on his or her gender will not be considered in this process. Whilst we do welcome parental input in the process, the school has the final say in decisions regarding class placement for 2016.
NAPLAN
Last week parents of students in Year 3 and Year 5 received their son’s NAPLAN results. The school’s performance in all key areas tested (reading, spelling, writing, language conventions and numeracy) was strong with our school average being significantly above the national average as well as the average for similar schools. I congratulate all students and teachers.
Maths week
Next week our students will be immersed in the world of maths with our inaugural Maths week taking place. Students will have the opportunity to engage in a range of exciting maths activities in class time, including financial literacy sessions through the Commonwealth Bank’s Start Smart Start Smart Financial Literacy Program. As part of the week we are also pleased to welcome ‘Professor Maths’ who will be running a series of Family Maths Nights for Wyvern families in the Wyvern Hall. Further information about these sessions is available via Spaces by using the following link Mathematics Night Shows. My thanks to the Wyvern P and F for sponsoring the family maths workshops.
“Back to Newington Day” on Saturday 5 September is one of most important days of the year for the Newington community. Whilst one focus is on celebrating the last home game for Senior School winter sports teams, it is a day of enjoyment for all Newington students and families. As such, there will be a strong Wyvern Prep presence with our own P and F providing many stalls and fun activities for our boys to enjoy. Our 12A rugby and football teams will also feature in Wyvern v Lindfield fixtures. I encourage you to mark the day in your diaries and support the Newington Community.
